ABOUT PLACER

What is Placer?

Placer is a booking platform that helps connect Users with Placers. The Placer mobile application has two key functions, 1) pay someone to help you with your everyday errands or 2) get paid to help someone with their everyday errands.

Delegate everyday errands by booking a Placer to complete a range of tasks. From line-sitting, to putting your name down on your favourite restaurant’s waiting list, to buying and delivering something from your local shop, Placer is your network of errand-runners available on demand.

Is Placer available in my city?

Placer is available any and everywhere Placers are registered. Currently, our recruitment activities are focussed on the United States and Australia with the largest network of Placers residing in New York City.

Is Placer always available?

Placer is available 24/7. However, we do recommend that if you’re needing someone late at night or early in the morning that you place your request a few hours prior so that the Placers are awake to respond to the request.

Can I use Placer overseas?

Yes. As previously mentioned, Placer is available any and everywhere Placers are registered. The app is not geo-locked so there is nothing stopping you from searching for a Placer in your country however, it’s helpful to note the majority of registered Placers currently reside in New York City.

What impact do my Placer ratings have?

We take our Placer ratings seriously. When searching for a Placer, the app prioritises the search in accordance with the Placers ratings.

HOW CAN I SIGN UP TO PLACER

Is there a cost to creating an account?

Nope, it’s free! The app is free and your account is free. Placer Systems only makes money on confirmed transactions.

I want to pay someone to run errands for me, how do I set up my account?

Download the Placer app on Android or iOS and sign in with email, your Facebook or a Google account. Then:

  1. Enter your account details
  2. Add your credit card information (this step is required as part of our verification process)
  3. Now you’re all set to book a Placer!
I want to become a Placer, how do I set up my account?

Download the Placer app on Android or iOS and sign in with email, Facebook or a Google account. Then:

  1. Create a Stripe account
  2. Verify your Stripe account
  3. Fill in your bank account and personal information (go to the left hand sidebar > click on your My Account or your profile photo > Payment Method)
  4. Connect your Stripe and Placer accounts (Financials > click on the settings cog in the top right hand corner > Connect)
  5. Stay signed in to receive requests (Settings > Placer Mode “on”)
  6. Start responding to job requests
What if I want to deactivate my account?

We’ll be sad to see you go! To deactivate your account please contact support@placerapp.com and our team will deactivate your account from the back-end of our system.

USING THE APP: AS A PLACER

What is a Stripe account and why do I need one?

Stripe is Placer’s chosen payment platform. We use Stripe because they are a universally trusted, anti-fraud online payment system. Placer does not pay into individual bank accounts, all payments and refunds are processed through the Stripe system. You can find out more about Stripe here.

App permissions

Make sure your notifications and location settings are turned “on” for the app.

How do I book jobs?

Job requests are sent to Placers via push-notification. Ensure that you have your notifications and location settings turned on for the Placer App. When you receive a job notification, follow these steps:

  1. Review the details of the job: time, date and payment amount.
  2. If you’re happy with the time, date and payment amount, accept the job. By hitting “confirm” you are agreeing to the terms set for the job, including the payment amount.
  3. If you’re not happy with the time, date or payment amount, you do not need to do anything with the request, just simply ignore it. 
What if I’m not happy with the payment amount?

If you’re not happy with the payment amount then do not accept the job. We do not encourage you to accept the job and then negotiate rates with the User as this may result in the cancellation of a job which will incur cancellation fees for the Placer.

How do I cancel a request?

To cancel a job booking hit the ‘X’ button. Please note that you will be charged a 25% cancellation fee.

Cancelling a request

The Placer can cancel a job at any given moment. However, a 25% penalty of the booking transaction will incur against his credit card or, if that fails, be deducted from their next job earrings.

In the instance of cancelling a job, the Placer is expected to cancel the job if they can no longer perform the service. A User is expected to cancel the request if they no longer need the service.

Can I tip my Placer through the app?

The Placer app does not include a tip when billing you for a job. Placer is a cashless transaction and tipping is voluntary. As a user, you are not obligated to offer your Placer a gratuity in cash. If you decided you would like to tip, your Placer is welcome to accept.

How do I give feedback about the app or my experience?

We love getting your feedback. We strive to provide the best in-app experience possible, and we cannot do that without your feedback, email support@placerapp.com with any comments or questions.

USING THE APP: AS A USER

How can I request a Placer?

Download the Placer app in the Android or iOS app store, sign in with email, Facebook or a Google account and connect your credit card to your profile. Then:  

  1. Type in the name or address of where you would like to send a Placer
  2. Then choose what you want your Placer to do at that location: hold a place in line, create a reservation or buy something
  3. Select the size of your party
  4. Estimate how long the job will take to guide your offer
  5. Select the time you want them to start the job, from now up to 24 hours in advance
  6. Confirm your booking
  7. Wait to be matched with an available Placer

OR

  1. Scroll up the “Popular Places & Special Events” tab on the home screen
  2. Click the popular place or special event you would like to book a Placer for
  3. Then choose what you want your Placer to do at that location: hold a place in line, create a reservation or buy something
  4. Select the size of your party
  5. Estimate how long the job will take to guide your offer
  6. Select the time you want them to start the job, from now up to 24 hours in advance
  7. Confirm your booking
  8. Wait to be matched with an available Placer

Done! Now you communicate with your Placer, and later provide your completion code.

Please note, once the booking is confirmed, Stripe will place a “hold” on the funds specified for the job. These funds will not be released to the Placer until the job is complete.

What happens if the Placer accepts the job, but then asks for extra money?

The User is under no obligation to pay the Placer any more money than the amount agreed when the Placer accepted the job. If this does happen, please see the following scenarios:

Scenario One: You do not want to pay extra

If you do not wish to increase the rate and, as a result, the Placer no longer wants to do the job, kindly ask them to cancel the job from their end. This will ensure the Placer and not the User incurs the cancellation fee.

If the Placer refuses to cancel the job, contact support@placerapp.com and our team will manually close the job for you. If the User cancels the job, the cancellation charges apply and we will not be able to issue a refund. See our Terms and Conditions.

Scenario Two: You are happy to increase the payment

If you are happy to increase the rate, you can add extra money to the job by clicking on the action (+) button in the in-app communication and then the “extend time” button. From there you can increase the transaction amount appropriately using our recommended hourly rate as a guide.

Please note that paying a Placer in cash is outside of our terms of agreement and we will not honor any requests for refunds involving cash. See our Terms and Conditions.

How do I cancel a request?

You can cancel a request by hitting the ‘X’. Please note, that upon being matched with a Placer, the User is liable to pay the full service fee. See our Terms and Conditions.

The only instance in which a cancellation on behalf of the User will not incur the full service fee, after a job has been confirmed, is during the “connecting” screen, before a Placer has accepted the job.

Cancelling a Placer

The User is allowed to cancel a request during the connecting screen before a Placer has accepted the job, after which time they will be fully charged for the booking transaction.

For cancellation beyond this point: the User is expected to cancel the request if they no longer need the service. A Placer is expected to cancel the job if they can no longer perform the service.

What happens if I booked the wrong date or time?

If you happen to book the wrong date or time, firstly let your Placer know and see if they are still available for the new date and time. Secondly, contact our Support Team via the in-app support chat or by emailing support@placerapp.com to change the job time and date, if the team receives the request within enough time, we will manually change the date and time of the job.

The User may need to cancel the job and start a new request. Please note that our cancellation fees apply as per our Terms and Conditions.

How far can I schedule a Placer in advance?

No more than 24 hours in advance. However, for special events, such as the Apple iPhone launch, we will work to accommodate these requests under the “Special Events” tab found on the app’s home screen.

Can I request a specific Placer?

Unfortunately not. As Placer is an on demand service, the allocation of Placers depends on who is available for the time of the request.

Can I make a job request for another person?

Yes, you can. However, you will need to let the Placer know the name of the person they will be meeting.

Contacting my Placer

If you wish to contact your Placer about a job location or talk about the details of the job you requested, you can do that through the app after your booking has been accepted.

How to identify a Placer

By their profile photo, purple Placer merchandise or aforementioned outfit during communication.

What happens if my Placer never shows up?

If a User requests a Placer and they accept but then a Placer never shows up or stops communicating, the User can cancel the request and raise a dispute.

In this event, a refund will be arranged and the relevant Placer will be contacted by Placer Support and evaluated as to whether they should be blacklisted from the system.

Rating a Placer

Users and Placers can rate each other after the completion of a job. At the end of the transaction, you will be invited to rate your Placer from 1 to 5 stars. Users should provide 5-star ratings unless there was an issue with the job.

LINE-SITTING FEATURE

What is a line-sitter?

A line-sitter is someone who is paid to wait in line on behalf of someone else.

I’ve never been a line-sitter, how does Placer work?

A User will post their request for a Placer, and from there it is up to the Placer to respond and finalise the details of the job. Check out our in-app tour for further instructions on how Placer works.

How is Placer different from other line-sitting companies?

Placer is the only app solely dedicated to booking a line-sitter across multiple industries i.e., we’re not just for restaurants, we’re for every and any situation in which you may find a line.

Placer is an on-demand service, meaning you can book a Placer as soon as you need one and up to 24 hours in advance, no prior planning required. Unlike other companies, our commission rate errs in favour of the Placer. That is, a Placer will earn 70% of every job they complete as at 8 November 2017.

Placer Systems does not set the price or conditions of the transaction. The price and conditions of the job are worked out between the User and the Placer, guided by our suggested hourly rate.

What if others waiting in line get mad?

We all know that waiting in lines for long periods of time can bring out the “not-so-best” in all of us, but we encourage all Placers to wear the company merchandise when possible and let people around them know what they’re doing. Read about jump etiquette on our blog.

What if the venue doesn’t allow Placers?

If venues do not allow Placer, notify the Support team and we will remove that venue from our system. Examples of places that may not allow Placer include airports (beyond security) and internal lines that would make it difficult for the user to meet their Placer and swap place in line (theme parks).

How many people can I line-sit for?

This is up to each individual Placer as to how many people they feel comfortable waiting in line for, understanding different venues have different rules and interpersonal issues can arise when a large group of people swap places with only one person in line.

Placers are seen as individual contractors and can choose to take on a large party with the idea of recruiting other Placers to help hold the party’s spot in line. It is then up to the Placer to fairly distribute the earnings among their recruits.

If your party increases and your Placer requests more money for the job, you can add money to a job by clicking on the action (+) button in the in-app communication and then the “extend time” button. From there you can increase the transaction amount appropriately (ignore the time increase if it does not apply to your situation).

BUY NOW FEATURE

What happens if the item I’ve requested is not in stock when the Placer goes to purchase?

If possible, we suggest that you check store stock levels first. If this is not possible, email support@placerapp.com and we will refund you for the money allotted for the item, but you will still be charged for the time taken by the Placer to purchase the item.

As the Placer, do I have to use my own money to purchase the item?

A Placer will make the purchase out of pocket. Once the job is complete, the payment for the job and the item will be released from the payment system into the Placer’s Stripe account.

APP ISSUES

What do I do if the app freezes?

If the app freezes while in use, close the app and restart your phone. If it freezes in the middle of making a request, before restarting the request process, check your active jobs but selecting the menu icon > My Jumps > Active. If the job request is not there, you will need to start the request process from the beginning.

Report an issue with the app

If you are experiencing ongoing issues with the app, we recommend you delete and reinstall the app. This will ensure you are using the latest version of the app, which is a common issue.

STRIPE ISSUES

I cannot withdraw money from Placer app to my Stripe Account

If you are experiencing issues withdrawing funds, this is generally a sign that there has been an issue with the configuration of your Stripe account.

  1. Check that you have confirmed your account via the confirmation email Stripe sends.
  2. Check that you have correctly activated your account. You can find instructions here.
  3. If this still does not help, log into your Stripe account and log a request with their support team.
How do I connect my Stripe account to Placer app?

Connect your Stripe and Placer account by clicking on Financials in the left-hand sidebar and the setting cog in the top right hand corner. From here you can connect your Stripe and Placer accounts.

PRICING

How are job prices calculated?

Job prices are calculated by how much the User is willing to pay. Our suggested hourly rate guides this process.

Getting a receipt

When a job ends, Placer will automatically send a receipt to the email address on your Placer account. If you aren’t receiving receipts, check the spam or junk folder of this email address. You can update your email address by clicking on your photo in the sidebar and updating your details.

Applying a promo code

Users will be given the opportunity to apply promo codes before completing their transaction.

Does Placer have recurring charges?

Nope! There are no recurring charges or membership fees for using Placer. You are only charged for the jobs you take.

Issues and refunds

Refunds will be processed on a case-by-case basis. If you believe you were unfairly charged or that a Placer behaved in an unprofessional manner please email support@placerapp.com and we will investigate your request as soon as possible. Please see “Cancelling a Placer” or our Terms and Conditions for more information on refunds.
