The longest lines in 2017

I don't want to alarm you, but Harry Styles is on this list

When something is in high demand, people will be willing to line up for it. Below is a list of the longest lines anticipated for 2017, whether that’s a single group of people waiting in one location or lines that spring up all over the world.

iPhone 8 launch, worldwide

Despite its rumoured USD1000+ price tag (ouch!) the iPhone 8 is expected to be the biggest smartphone launch in years. Lots of people who upgraded to an iPhone 6 have been putting off upgrading until the 10-year anniversary of the iPhone now they are ready to buy… well, line up first, but then buy.

Wimbledon tennis tournament, United Kingdom

It’s a British institution – queueing I mean. Wimbledon isn’t just about the tennis, but Pimm’s and strawberries and cream too. The queue for on-the-day tickets is notorious – there’s even an official guide to queueing. In 1991 the line for tickets stretched for 1.5 miles!

The Hajj, Saudi Arabia

Every Muslim is supposed to conduct the Hajj at least once in their lives if they’re able, and the most wealthy sometimes do it every year! No surprise then that Mecca becomes one of the busiest cities in the world annually, leading to massive crowds and long, long lines.

Black Friday sales, United States

Black Friday isn’t as big as it used to be, and a lot of the lines have been shrunk down thanks to digital sales. Even so, you can still see people lining up outside a local Best Buy or other outlet and running to snare a deal once the store opens. This isn’t just a line, it’s a cumulative lining up experience that the entire country goes through all at once. It brings us together… in a line… and that’s beautiful.

Harry Styles on tour, United States

I don’t want to alarm you, but Harry Styles is going out into the world to play music in front of audiences. Back when he was touring with One Direction they were some of the biggest and most enthusiastic crowds we’d seen, and it doesn’t look like going it alone is dampening the enthusiasm. If you’re going to see Harry in concert, get ready to line up and wait for a long time to get into that venue.
